COURSE DESCRIPTION
PSY 610 will explore, in depth, the biological foundations of human and animal behavior and the unique developmental patterns necessary for survival. Sensory and motor development, perception, learning, thinking, motivation, and emotion will also be a focus of this course.
COURSE GOALS
· The student will understand the relationship between biological and psychological functioning
· The student will understand the interrelationship between diverse biological systems
· The student will better understand the working of the brain and the nervous system
COURSE EXPECTATIONS AND EVALUATION
· Write a brief summary of each text chapter.
· Write a separate, critical, 2-3 page outline summary of each of the following areas:
Support your answers with research data. Include a Bibliography
The relationship between Biology and Psychology
Physiological aspects of the nervous system
Research methods in Physiological Psychology
The effects of injury to the brain and nervous system
Biological aspects of mental illness
The senses
Physiological aspects of sexual behavior
Motivation - needs, arousal states
Sleep processes
Split-brain behavior and problems
COURSE PREREQUISITE: A bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement for admission to this course of study.
COURSE DELIVERY: This course shall be delivered completely through online interaction via the Internet or other acceptable distance learning medium(s). Due to this being a non-traditional program, traditional classroom residency is not required. Therefore, you are expected to independently read and analyze the subject matter with me performing the roles of an advisor and mentor.
