COURSE DESCRIPTION
PSY 601 will explore the history and systems of psychology from its early origins in philosophy, religion, medicine, and physiology. Particular attention will be given to the contributions of psychoanalysis, structuralism, functionalism, behaviorism, gestalt, existentialism, and phenomenology and how these approaches have found expression in the current movements in behavior modification, humanism and the human potential movement.
COURSE GOALS
· The student will understand psychology as part of a long term historical movement
· The student will understand the growth and changes that have led to modern theories in psychology
· The student will understand the major people in the history and growth of psychology
COURSE EXPECTATIONS AND EVALUATION
Write a brief outline summary of each chapter with personal evaluation of the value of the information covered.
PROJECT
Select one of the names listed below and write a comprehensive research paper outlining their personal and professional history and their lasting influence on the field of Psychology - 15-20 pages. Include sources use original sources when possible.

The 15 to 20 page typed, double spaced paper will provide useful and interesting information about individuals and the development of the history of psychology. These individuals represent a variety of gender and cultural thought. Many of these names may be unfamiliar to you which should make it even more interesting to research their history.
COURSE PREREQUISITE: A bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement for admission to this course of study.
COURSE DELIVERY: This course shall be delivered completely through online interaction via the Internet or other acceptable distance learning medium(s). Due to this being a non-traditional program, traditional classroom residency is not required. Therefore, you are expected to independently read and analyze the subject matter with me performing the roles of an advisor and mentor.
