COURSE DESCRIPTION

The student will use statistical methods to write a research proposal (such as would be used for a MA Thesis or a Doctoral Dissertation). The student will use APA guide styles. The topic and type of research will be approved by the instructor prior to beginning the proposal.

Students will explore SPSS applications.

PSY 431 allows the student to use statistical and research methods in a practical way to begin the process of doing professional research.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS AND EVALUATION

Passing this course will depend entirely on the creation and approval of a research project. Each step will be reviewed and evaluated by the instructor.

PROJECT

The student will use statistical methods to write a research proposal (such as would be used for a MA Thesis or a Doctoral Dissertation). The student will use APA guide styles. The topic and type of research will be approved by the instructor prior to beginning the proposal.

The proposal will include:

1) Rationale for the proposal – why are you choosing this particular topic to research?

2) What research has already been done in this area? Provide a summary and references.

3) What exactly will you be measuring? Why?

4) How will you measure your findings? Which specific statistical methods? Why?

5) What significance does this research have to the field of psychology?

COURSE PREREQUISITE: A bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement for admission to this course of study. 

COURSE DELIVERY: This course shall be delivered completely through online interaction via the Internet or other acceptable distance learning medium(s). Due to this being a non-traditional program, traditional classroom residency is not required. Therefore, you are expected to independently read and analyze the subject matter with me performing the roles of an advisor and mentor.
