COURSE DESCRIPTION
PSY 422 will focus on the study and understanding of major
Personality Theories and theorists. This study will include:
following the development of Personality Theories within various
'Schools of Thought', the application of theoretical materials to
professional and social situations, determining the components of
'complete theories' and the contribution of research to the field
of personality. No one Theory is complete.
At the conclusion of PSY 422, the student will have developed
sufficient understanding of theories, theorists and personality
constructs to explain and describe the behavior of individuals and
groups within the parameters of various Personality Theories.
COURSE GOALS
1) To develop an awareness of Personality Theory and approaches to
the study of human personality
2) To develop an in-depth
understanding of selected Personality Theories and the
interrelationship among theories
3) To integrate learning into
personal concepts and constructs of personality
4) To be able to apply theoretical
information to the study of behavior, particularly problems of
adjustment
EXPECTATIONS AND EVALUATION
Students will complete a project consisting of choosing a
'favorite' Personality Theory and then writing a ten (10) page
typed, double spaced AUTOBIOGRAPHY using the chosen Personality
Theory to describe and explain behaviors and events in your life.
This will require the development of an in-depth understanding of
the chosen theory. - 40% of Final Grade
Students will write a chapter summary for each assigned chapter -
outlining the theory, its strengths, weaknesses, applicability to
life situations, and comprehensiveness. - 20% of Final Grade
EXAM
There will be one written exam, provided by the Instructor when
all written coursework has been completed. It will be an open-book
exam consisting of multiple-choice, short answer, and essay length
questions. The student will have one week after receiving the exam
to complete the exam and return it to the Instructor. – 40%
COURSE PREREQUISITE: A bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement for admission to this course of study.
COURSE DELIVERY: This course shall be delivered completely through online interaction via the Internet or other acceptable distance learning
medium(s). Due to this being a non-traditional program, traditional classroom residency is not required. Therefore, you are expected to independently read and analyze the subject matter with me performing the roles of an advisor and mentor.
